Many women will tell you that the toilet seat being left up is one of the most irritating things that can happen when you live with a guy.

So it comes as no surprise that this woman noticed her loo seat had been left in the upright position - however, it also gave her cause to become suspicious, as she reminded herself that there were no men living in the house.

As well as the toilet seat, she also noticed a blanket in an unusual place - and that's when she discovered that her ex-boyfriend had been secretly living in her attic. Yep, that's right.

This is a blanket that the woman found in her basement.

According to the Mirror, the woman - who has not been named - went upstairs to her bedroom in the house that she shares with her daughter, after hearing a noise that she thought had been caused by her cat.

But she was shocked to discover that it was actually her ex-boyfriend Cary Cocuzzi, 31, that was standing there.

According to authorities, she already had a protection from abuse order (PFA) out against Cocuzzi which should have protected her from him coming near her.

The woman decided not to call the cops initially, explaining to Pennsylvania news station WPXI: "I knew that blanket had not been there before. I knew it. But what could I do? I already had the PFA (protection from abuse) against him. I can't call the police and say, 'There's a blanket in my basement.'

When it came to the toilet lid, she explained: "Nobody in my home uses the bathroom that way. And I didn't have any visitors, so I just thought, 'Gosh, is this guy in my house? This is so strange.'

"I had an intuition about it, but I ignored it. I brushed it aside. I didn't want to seem paranoid... you know, you never think this will happen to you, but I should have trusted my instinct because I was right."

It has been claimed that Cocuzzi grabbed her by the face but she managed to break free from his grip and ran outside where she was about to get neighbours to call the emergency services.

Police arrived and found the man hiding inside the house. He went on to tell officers that he was homeless and had been sneaking in and out of his former girlfriend's home for around a fortnight.

The Mirror reports that Cocuzzi is now facing burglary charges.
