It's Earth Hour Day! Turn Off All Your Electricity At 8:30pm

It takes place between 8:30pm and 9:30pm.

Today is 'Earth Hour Day', so if you fancy getting involved - turn all your electricity off at 8:30pm.

Imagine if everyone actually did this? For someone who lives in the city, I've forgotten what stars look like. They would be so bright if everyone turned them off.

However, it's one of them. Like when you do a minute's silence and someone starts chatting. There's always going to be some people who don't get involved. Or forget. More likely the latter when it comes to turning your lights off.

Well tonight, lots of countries are leading by example and turning off the lights on massive buildings such as: Big Ben, Harrods, the Gherkin, the Eiffel Tower, Sydney Opera House and Bangkok Grand Palace.

The idea behind it is to not only help give the planet a little bit of a break, but also getting people to realise exactly how much electricity they use.

Who's behind it? Those lovely lot at the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). They started it off ten years ago in Sydney, but now it's grown to include over 100 countries and millions of people.

All you need to do to get involved is turn your lights off. They also encourage you to stop using electronic devices like iPads, laptops and mobile phones too. I would love to say that I could stay off my phone for an hour, but that sounds impossible. We may as well give it a go though, what's the worst that could happen? You might miss out on a pintman meme. It'll still be there later, don't worry.

It would be quite nice to sit in candlelight for a bit, but I imagine a lot of you will be pre-drinking at that time so be careful.

Before you say it, yes - the countries involved do keep street lights and traffic lights on. Safety first and all that.

It's pretty romantic, right? Or like the beginning of a zombie film. Either or.
