Man Receives Huge Pay-Out After Surgeon Removes Wrong Testicle

Man Receives Huge Pay-Out After Surgeon Removes Wrong Testicle

Ouch.

Testicles are weird and wonderful things. They produce around 200 million sperm every day and nearly two-thirds of men have balls at different heights.

But sometimes they can be...well...a bit of a ball-ache.

One man in Pennsylvania had been experiencing pain in one of his testicles for an impressive 15 years. After all that time, Steven Haines decided enough was enough and he wanted to part ways with the satanic ball.

So, he enlisted the help of urologist Dr V. Spencer Long to help him. The 54-year-old went into the surgery room hoping this was going to be a new start. But he woke up after the operation and, to his horror, realised that the healthy testicle had been removed.

Steven sued Dr Long, with his lawyer saying he remains in pain and is deathly afraid of going back under the knife to have the other taken away. The victim will apparently need testosterone treatment for the rest of his life if that second procedure takes place.

A jury has found Dr Long guilty, meaning he'll have to pay $620,000 (£485,100) for pain and suffering as well as a further $250,000 (£195,600) in punitive damages. That takes the total pay-out for Steven to $870,000 (£680,000).

If you lose a testicle, for whatever reason, it can result in infertility, loss of sexual appetite, erection problems, hot flashes, weight gain, loss of muscle mass and even enlarge your breasts. So, I guess that sum of money is probably granted.

It would be devastating having to go through something like losing one or two of your nuts. As mentioned earlier, testicles are a very important part of a man's body. Every single sperm has about 37.5 MB of DNA data, meaning there's roughly 15.8 terabytes in every ejaculation.

The testicles also have the most diverse proteins, according to a study called the Human Genome Project. The research found that 77 percent of human proteins are produced in the ballsack.

Strangely as well, according to The Guardian, the majority of Greek statues feature a bigger left testicle. Dr Chris McManus studied 187 sculptures and found that the right nut was, on average, higher than the left.
