On today's This Morning, Ruth and Eamonn Holmes were joined by the parents of 22-month-old Dawson Willcock.

The toddler's parents were on the show to talk about hepatoblastoma, a rare type of liver cancer that their child suffers from, and to try to raise funds to save his life.

However, during the interview Eamonn caused controversy with some viewers, after making 'insensitive' comments towards the toddler.

The family's Dollar for Dawson appeal hopes to raise £500,000, so that top American paediatric haematologist-oncologist, Dr James Gellar, can 'pull a miracle from somewhere to help keep their son alive'.

But, after the family spoke about the devastating condition, Eamonn said: "Dawson come back and see us when you get all your hair back yeah? When you get better, and well, and lovely."

Although I'm sure his comments weren't meant to cause offence, viewers of the show blasted the presenter on Twitter for his tactlessness, and some even called for him to be sacked.

"Always thought Eamonn was a lovely man but the comment he said to little boy Dawson on This Morning today was vile and offensive," wrote one user.

"@EamonnHolmes needs the sack!!after what he said to that poor little boy (sic)," added one furious fan.

But other viewers defended the host and said that what he said had been taken out of context:

I just hope the little guy gets the treatment, you can donate to the appeal here.
