Ewan McGregor Rumoured To Make 'Star Wars' Return As Obi-Wan Kenobi

Good news if true.

It looks like Ewan McGregor was right about one thing, the negotiations were short.

Apparently the reason he didn't end up playing Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is because Disney had bigger plans for him.

An unconfirmed FANDOM source has revealed that the Scottish actor will reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi as part of the up-coming Star Wars film.

Back in 2015, McGregor told MTV that he was initially very interested in taking on the role of Doctor Stephen Strange, he said: "Yeah, I was into it, yeah. I thought it was exciting. I was intrigued by it, and I like the idea of creating a superhero character. Why wouldn't you? Very nice. But it was fun to be in the mix for a little while."

But now FANDOM reports: "Marvel wanted Ewan [McGregor] for the [Marvel] role. But they were told they couldn't cast him because Disney needed him for Star Wars."

It might be worth taking these rumours with a pinch of salt as Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen played two different characters across the MCU and Star Wars franchises - Kaecilius in Doctor Strange and Galen Erso in Rogue One - and they were only released months apart.

But nevertheless, fan have speculated that there might be an Obi-Wan Kenobi solo movie released in the vein of the upcoming Han Solo project for some time.

In fact, McGregor has even spoken out about the potential project over the past few months, telling Entertainment Weekly: "There's no official offer, and I haven't met them about it or anything.

"I've always said that I'd be happy to do it if they wanted to do it. It would be a good segue between the last episode of the prequels and the new episodes."

To be fair, it's easy for actors to get typecast as a certain character and for that to become a distraction for audiences, so it's not beyond belief that Disney would make a power play and stop McGregor taking two major roles.
