The Sun newspaper has today called on the BBC to sack Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker after he tweeted his support for refugees.

The front page of the paper ran with the headline, 'Out on his ears' and claimed that the broadcasting company was under pressure to fire the former footballer after he spread 'false claims' about an Afghan at the centre of the child migrant storm.

Those of you who enjoy watching Gary on MOTD, don't need to worry just yet, though. A spokesperson from the Beeb said: "Gary is a freelance broadcaster and this is a personal Twitter account." I think that translates as 'we couldn't care less what he says'.

The debate about Gary's removal comes after he tweeted his support for the young refugees who have been allowed entry into the UK. A couple of days ago he tweeted this:

The tweet attracted a lot of support, it's had 18,000 likes, and a fair share of abuse. He also called out several tabloid newspapers for their inaccurate reporting of the child migrants.

Gary hasn't let it bother him. In fact, he's taken to Twitter with the classiest comeback:

Well played, Gary.
