An underground cave network has been discovered beneath a Primark after a sinkhole appeared in the car park.

Just below the Thanet branch of the budget clothing retailer, there is a network of old war tunnels, KentLive reports.

The tunnels were first discovered in 2015 by the owners of Westwood Cross .

And photos taken by local history group Thanet Hidden History reveal the extent of the caves network, thought to have been built during the First World War.

The Primark reopened its ground floor shopping area yesterday, following the appearance of the sinkhole.

On their Facebook page, Thanet Hidden History wrote: "World War II underground tunnels caused subsidence for the second time at the store in the space of 3 years.

"The ground level shopping area was closed off until lengthy repairs were made, we were lucky enough to get a record of this back in 2014.

"Hidden History, under your feet even on a Saturday shopping spree."

The only way to describe the photos is spectacular.
