Game of Thrones fans will know that Jon Snow broke his Night's Watch vows and lost his virginity with a Wildling in a cave, but it turns out the man who plays the role, Kit Harington, had a first shag which was far less interesting.

He opened up about losing his V during an interview with Elle magazine, and from the sounds of it, it was more Skins than Game of Thrones.

He said: "[My first time] was a little less left-field than in a cave. It was a typical sort of teenage thing, at a party. I was probably too young.

"I think the girl and I just kind of wanted to. You either hold on and do it right, or you're young and decide to get the monkey off your back."

Although Kit didn't reveal the age it happened, when the interviewer guessed '13', he confirmed it wasn't 'far off'.

He also revealed that part of the reason he got into acting was to impress women, as he said: "There's something about being a show-off, and that gets you attention. And attention gets you the opposite sex sometimes."

Although he added: "By the time I got to drama school, I was a bit more serious about actually wanting to be an actor than I was about chasing skirt."

The actor also revealed than one of his distant relatives was responsible for inventing the flushing toilet and why toilets are now called 'John'.

"It's called 'the John Harington'," he said. "I'm glad it's not called 'the Harington'. [My family] also wrote the queen a lot of bad poetry. I've inherited the bad poetry genes, but not the inventor genes."

The London-born son of a businessman and a former playwright, Kit became interested in acting after watching a production of Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot when he was 14.

After graduating from the Central School of Speech and Drama in 2008, he landed the lead role in War Horse on the West End. Soon after he auditioned to play Jon Snow in everyone's favourite HBO fantasy show.

Alongside his roles on television, he also voice-acted in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and has starred in How to Train Your Dragon 2 and Brimstone.

His long-term girlfriend is Rose Leslie, who also played his on-screen girlfriend Ygritte in Game of Thrones, the next series of which is reported to return on 25 June.
