Fair warning guys, if you're not up to date on the latest episode of Game of Thrones - that is the fifth episode of the seventh season - then this article will reveal huge upcoming plot points in the show, so if you don't want anything spoiling then DO NOT READ AHEAD.

A big moment in the latest episode of Game of Thrones came when Littlefinger set a trap for Ayra Stark by leaving a raven scroll in his bedroom.

The youngest Stark sister thought she was stumbling on something Baelish wanted to hide but he had actually left it there knowing she was spying on him.

The significance of the letter goes all the way back to the first series. It was written by Sansa to her family at the time that her father Ned had been branded a traitor. With the North in revolt over Ned's imprisonment, Sansa was pressured by Cersei to write to her brother Robb.

The letter, written by Sansa, reads: "Robb, I write to you with a heavy heart. Our good king Robert is dead, killed from wounds he took in a boar hunt. Father has been charged with treason.

"He conspired with Robert's brothers against my beloved Joffrey and tried to steal his throne. The Lannisters are treating me very well and provide me with every comfort.

"I beg you: come to King's Landing, swear fealty to King Joffrey and prevent any strife between the great houses of Lannister and Stark."

But what does the letter matter? Well, at the time not a lot, Robb and Catelyn immediately saw through it, knowing it was the work of the Lannisters and an attempt to stop Robb's advance southwards.

However, a few season's later, it's likely that Ayra will see it as proof of Sansa's betrayal of the Stark family whilst she was in Kingslanding.

As for the wider implications of the letter, it looks like Littlefinger wants to continue his close relationship with Sansa and that means driving a wedge between her and the other members of her family.

This could also spell bad news for Jon Snow's rule King of the North, as it's likely Baelish would rather have Sansa ruling Winterfell than her bastard brother and is Ayra was to share it with him who knows how he would reacted.

It's already been hinted that Sansa would like to take the North as her own and especially as a number of hints were dropped that he may not be Sansa's brother at all, if the two did fall out then it might provide her with further motivation to betray him.
