Tom Hardy will be the lead in Spider-man spin-off Venom, while Ruben Fleischer, best known for directing Zombieland, looks increasingly likely to sign-on to the project.
The movie is scheduled to open October 5, 2018 and the duo are in final negotiations to be part of the franchise, with the script coming from Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner.
The role will mean
that Hardy will have played villains for both Marvel and DC,
having played Bane in 2012's The Dark Knight Rises.

Hardy will play Eddie Brock, a freelance photographer is infected by an alien lifeform that needs a host in order to survive.
Venom was originally conceived as a supervillain, but has since become more of an antihero. His first appearance in the comics came in the The Amazing Spider-Man #252, back in May 1984.

The character was listed as #33 on Empire Magazine's 50 Greatest Comic Book Characters, so it's unsurprising he will be getting his own film.
The studio is also developing a Silver Sable and Black Cat film, which like the Venom movie will follow on from Spider-Man: Homecoming.
