We have good news for gin lovers everywhere: drinking the juniper-based tipple actually makes you sexier.

You might say that it's just a rumour, or put it down to the good old 'beer goggles' phenomenon, but no, apparently it's been scientifically proven.

According to a new study published by the medical mega-journal BMJ Open, different types of alcohol have a different effect on your emotions as well as on your behaviour.

The study surveyed 30,000 people aged between 18 and 34 from 21 different countries and found that drinkers of spirits, beer and wine all had different answers to the thoughts and feelings they associated with their tipple.

While drinkers of spirits like gin were most associated with aggressive behaviour, the study also proved that they are very sexy people too.

Over half (59%) of the people surveyed associated drinking spirits with feeling energetic and confident, while 42.5% associated them with feeling sexy.

Meanwhile, red wine and beer were found to be the most tipples most associated with tiredness and relaxation - no surprise, given they're what you'll most likely drink at home.

To make things even better, a festive gin has just been released just in time for Christmas, and it sounds seriously tasty.

Yuletide Gin has three wise (geddit?) flavours of gold, frankincense and myrrh, which were the gifts that the kings gave baby Jesus when they visited him after his birth.

If Magi-themed gin flavours are a bit too biblical for you, there are 24 other botanicals in these wonderful bottles of booze.

Some of the other festive flavours in Yuletide Gin's range include Christmas tree needles, chestnuts, mince pies, Christmas pudding and cakes, nutmeg, juniper, cinnamon, and gingerbread.

If that wasn't enough of a draw for you, the gin also comes with snazzy sprinkles of 24 carat gold, making it look fun to shake like a snow globe.

We won't lie - the bottles have a pretty hefty £34.95 price tag, so you won't want to neck them all in one go. Even if you may feel sexier.

Nevertheless, if you're looking for the perfect gift for any gin fiend, this brand may be well worth a look.

Now you have more than enough reasons to mix yourself up a gin and tonic this evening - as if you needed one.
