You've probably heard by now, but Call of Duty is going back to its roots and bringing out the most highly-anticipated game of the year - Call of Duty: WWII.

At Sony's E3 2017 press conference, some gameplay footage was dropped and it looks SICK.

Sony released a statement, saying: "Fast-paced, grounded combat returns in Call of Duty:registered:: WWII Multiplayer. Armed with an arsenal of iconic Allied and Axis weaponry, players are immersed in brutal gameplay as they fight to liberate a continent in the throes of tyranny.

"The new Divisions feature redefines how players invest in their MP career, giving them the chance to choose from five divisions, each with their own specialized training and weapons skills.

"In War Mode, an entirely fresh Call of Duty experience, players must works as a team and fight for control through multiple strategic objectives. So gear up, and get ready to join the ranks on November 3rd."

"What's War Mode?" I hear you ask. Well...

So basically, you and other players have to work as a team to defeat a common enemy. Awesome.

Another new feature is the aforementioned Divisions system which will replace 'create-a-class' system.

Glen Schofield, co-founder and studio head of Sledgehammer Games, and Michael Condrey, the company's chief operating and development officer, took part in an interview for PlayStation where they revealed the new plans.

Twitter's Call of Duty News asked the pair: "What will the create-a-class system be in multiplayer? And will we see never-before-seen perks?"

Condrey replied: "We're days away from E3 2017 [13-15 June 2017] and the team at Sledgehammer Games can hardly wait to share more on our multiplayer plans. We're particularly looking forward to revealing more on Divisions.

"Divisions fundamentally redefines how players invest in their Multiplayer soldier career. Replacing the create-a-class system, players choose from five iconic World War II divisions each with specific basic combat training, division training and weapon skills. We think it'll intrigue Call of Duty series veterans, and we can't wait for our fans to see it for themselves."

How amazing does that look?!

Basically, it looks like you'll be able to pick a division (perhaps sniper, infantry, etc) and through this your skills and training will be different.

Excitement regarding the new game, which takes CoD back to its roots (rather than into space, the future, or something equally as terrible), has been building for a while.

In a livestream back in late April, Activision lifted the lid on the upcoming title, including details on gameplay and online modes...

Ahead of the big reveal of Call of Duty: WWII, Activision gave a brief history of its other World War II games, taking a look at the original, as well as Call of Duty: United Offensive, Call of Duty: Finest Hour, Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 3 and Call of Duty: World at War.

In between Call of Duty 3 and World at War, the franchise began the Modern Warfare series, which would see a break from WWII, spawning three games and a remaster, before beginning the Black Ops series, which was prologued by World at War.
