MTV Reality Star Clay Adler Has Died Aged 27

Clay Adler, former star of MTV's Newport Harbor: The Real Orange County, has died after taking his own life.

The 27-year-old passed away after shooting himself on 26 March, TMZ reports.

Authorities said that hat Clay was with friends when the incident happened.

The group had decided to go fire guns in the desert last month, when Clay turned the gun on himself. He died the following day in hospital.

On Saturday his former Newport Harbor co-star Allie Stockton paid tribute to her late friend. Posting a picture of them enjoying themselves at a Halloween party on Instagram, she said: "At a loss for words and truly heartbroken.

"We love you so much Clay. I do hope you're in this outfit when I see you again."

Clay appeared on two season of the MTV reality show Newport Harbor: The Real Orange County between 2007-08, the show built on the previous success of Laguna Beach.

TMZ reports that police do not believe drugs and alcohol were involved, however he had struggled with mental health issues in the past.

On Saturday, friends and family remember the avid surfer with a traditional 'paddle out' ceremony.

After appearing on the MTV reality show, Clay attempted to find work as an actor but struggled to find his big break, during his search for stardom he became close to Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence
