You'd think by now that there isn't a single person in the whole world who doesn't know that you shouldn't leave dogs in hot cars. However, every year a couple of these stories pop up and it's just heart-breaking.
Jonathan Theobald, 65, admitted in court to causing the death of his three dogs after he left them in a hot car for five hours while he went to the gym.
The incident happened on June 16, when the temperature in Peterborough, where the incident happened, was around 19 degrees. But it was a lot hotter when trapped inside the car with no open windows or access to water. The inside of a car can be as much as 20 degrees higher in temperature.

By the time Jonathan finished at the gym, two of his dogs were already dead and the other was seriously unwell and later died, the Daily Mail reports.

Jonathan told officers: "I'm the one to blame; I made a terrible mistake."
RSPCA inspector Justin Stubbs said that the dogs had overheated, as he explained: "They may have had fits; they may have slowly cooked, essentially. They would have been terrified, trapped."
The RSPCA used the court case to further reiterate that you should NEVER leave your dog in a car on a warm day. If you see a dog that you think might be in danger inside a car, call 999.
