Actor Ricardo Medina Jr. has pleaded guilty to the voluntary manslaughter of Joshua Sutter in 2015.

Medina Jr. played the Red Ranger in the Power Rangers Wild Force TV series.

Sutter, 36, was stabbed in the abdomen with a 'Conan the Barbarian-style' sword following an argument at the residence he shared with Medina Jr. in LA, TMZ reported last year.

According to police, Medina and his girlfriend went into his bedroom and closed the door, but when Sutter forced entry Medina stabbed him with the blade which he kept behind his bedroom door.

Medina had lived in the home in Green Valley for approximately two months.

Medina called 911 and told police that he had been acting in self-defence. Sutter died in hospital.

The now-38-year-old actor, who had pleaded not guilty to Sutter's murder at his arraignment in October, filed a guilty plea in Lancaster, Los Angeles, on Thursday, KTLA5 reported.

Medina now faces a maximum of six years in prison. He will face sentencing on 30 March.
