It's difficult to read about.

A Mexican hitman has revealed the worst crime he ever committed in a new book.

Martin Corona, 53, was a top member of the Tijuana Cartel ran by Benjamin Arellano Felix and his brother Ramon.

Confessions of a Cartel Hitman provides an insider perspective to the major Mexican cartel, which he started working for at the age of 29.

As you might imagine, there are some particularly grim passages from Corona, who was convicted of murdering eight people.

He explains how he once shot a pregnant woman whilst her daughter looked on in horror.

In the book, he writes: "She opened the door with the chain still attached to get a look at me. What she saw was a clean‑cut nerdy guy, so she took the chain off.

"As soon as she did that, I pulled out my gun and the rest of the crew rushed into the house. By this time the mom was with the daughter by the door and they both tried to take off screaming.

"We let the daughter go and three of us sort of tackled the mom.

"Pato shoots her in the head and Drak and I shoot as well. We were pretty certain she wouldn't survive the five rounds she'd just taken."

Both women survived the vicious attack, according to the Mirror, and Corona says the crime still haunts him to this day.

Corona was also once sent to get revenge for a hit organised by El Chapo, who ran the rival Sinaloa cartel.

In the planned hit at Guadalajara airport, the notorious crime boss escaped, with Corona instead killing a cardinal by accident.

Alongside his more high profile targets, Corona also confesses to having been involved in the brutal killing of others, including fathers, mothers and grandparents.

The book has received positive reviews on Amazon, one reviewer writes: "Very detailed and descriptive giving insight into everything including what lead to it all and his state of mind and change of heart."

Another says: "Great book, great story from the beginning to the end. Let's you see and understand the difference between a good life and a bad one."

Corona was released from prison in 2014 and now says he regrets his numerous crimes.
