How are you feeling about life? Pretty good? Feeling Christmassy yet? Starting to feel the joy of the festive period, warming your very soul? Well, fuck all that because we are all going to die.
Our planet is due for an 'extinction-level' event from out of space, and even if we are able to see it before it decimates us all, there will be nothing we can do about it.
Normally when we get these doom's day announcements it's from a self-proclaimed conspiracy-expert or UFO-enthusiast, but this is from a NASA scientist. Shit.

Dr Joseph Nuth of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Centre was speaking at a meeting in San Francisco when he warned that large comets and asteroids of the type that are big enough to wipe out civilization are rare but hit '50 to 60 million years apart'. The last time a comet hit Earth was 65 million years ago and it wiped out the dinosaurs, so, Dr Nuth argues we're past 'due'.
Terrifyingly, he added: "The biggest problem, basically, is there's not a hell of a lot we can do about it at the moment," The New York magazine reports.
So, what does he think we should do? Get Nasa to build a massive rocket which we can use to shoot any such comet or asteroid if we see one on its way. Good plan, except I think they did that once on The Simpsons and it didn't help at all.
