A teenager mum killed her two toddlers after intentionally leaving them in a hot car for more than 15 hours so she could party with friends.

Amanda Hawkins, 19, left toddlers Addyson, two and Brynn, one, inside the without food or water overnight.

Ignoring their cries for help, the Walmart worker then spent the night at a friend's house in Kerr County, Texas. When a friend suggested she bring them inside, she refused.

By the time she went back to the car the next day they had collapsed unconscious in 33C heat.

But instead of taking them to hospital straight away, the mum dressed them in a different set of clothes and gave them a bath. She initially tried to cover up what had happened belling doctors they passed out after smelling flowers at a local park.

Police investigated and had to question her before she confessed to what happened.

Kerr County Sheriff Hierholzer said in a statement: "This is by far the most horrific case of child endangerment that I have seen in the 37 years that I have been in law enforcement."

Although her records showed she had 'no history' with police, it has since emerged it was not the first time she left her children in a car.

"I had the two most beautiful grandbabies," Hawkins' mother, Alisha Eddy told mySanAntonio.com. "I don't agree with what happened, what she did, but I love my daughter. I'm there for my daughter."

"We're just bewildered and confused," Hawkins' aunt said.

She was arrested on Thursday and has been charged with two counts of abandoning or endangering a child. If she is found guilty at a trial she could face up two years in jail.

Although police have said that the charges may be upgraded because the children died.
