Whatever happens in the quarter final match against Sweden today, we'll always have this. No, not England's 6-1 drubbing of Panama in the group stages, nor the fact the team's penalty shootout jinx was finally lifted in the tense finale of the game against Colombia.

We're talking about the beautiful sight of Coronation Street star Jack Shepherd being found slumped drunk and unconscious in a lift in Manchester on Tuesday night following that epic shootout - and his epic response.

The 30-year-old actor - who has played David Platt on the soap since 2000 - was found by an unnamed Corrie fan in her boyfriend's block of flats in Manchester slumped against the side of the lift and clutching a bottle opener and his phone.

According to a friend, the woman, who entered the lift just after midnight on Wednesday morning, didn't want to wake the star, though was more than happy to take his picture.

"She found it too awkward to wake him up," one of her friends told The Sun.

"She just went to get in the lift and Jack was passed out on the floor. He'd clearly had too much to drink and enjoyed himself after the football." Didn't we all?

Luckily, the woman didn't turn out to be a thief, and just stepped over the actor and went up to her boyfriend's flat. She then sent the lift back down to make it easier for Jack to find his way out when he woke up.

The actor himself seems to think the whole thing is pretty funny and has taken the incident in good humour, sharing the snap on his Instagram Stories with the caption: "I was texting Gareth saying.... 'it's coming home'."

We can but hope. However bad his hangover was, it wasn't enough to stop him partying. On Friday night he was spotted at the Neighbourhood Weekender Festival in Warrington downing pints with a friend and singing along to 'Don't Marry Her' by The Beautiful South.

Who knows what inebriated mischief he might get up to after the match today, but if England win, we may well be seeing some more drunken antics from the soap star.
