Why Riot Is Going To Be The Main Villain In Venom

Thanks to a new trailer from Marvel, we now know who the main enemy will be in the upcoming Venom film.

A new trailer for the upcoming Venom film has been released, and there's going to be a lot more symbiote villains than we previously thought.

If you don't know, a symbiote in the Marvel universe is an extraterrestrial species which bonds to it's host and changes their personality for the worse.

It gives them powers, too, such as super strength, the ability to morph weapons with their limbs, and block out Peter Parker's Spider-Sense.

Venom was the first to be introduced into the comics, back in 1988, and it took hold of reporter Eddie Brock to become one of the most powerful Spider-Man villains of all time.

But seeing as Spidey might not be making an appearance in the new film, the producers have decided to use other enemies of Venom enemies instead - and they take the form of his own offspring.

Many thought the antagonist for the film would be Carnage, a spawn of Venom, and Bleeding Cool reported that Woody Harrelson would be playing the part.

Thanks to this new trailer, however, we can see that the main bad guy will actually be Riot, who will transform from Riz Ahmed's Carlton Drake.

Why do we think this? Well...

In Venom: Lethal Protector, the Life Foundation tries to produce "super-cops" by extracting five seeds from the Venom symbiote and bonding them to their best security guards.

As we can see from the trailer, rigorous testing and various other symbiotes are held at the Life Foundation. Although Riot was initially a guard named Trevor Cole, it makes sense that Drake himself could be the creature instead.

Plus, rumoured Carnage is bright red. The main symbiote we see in this trailer (except the protagonist) more so represents Venom's dark colour, apart from not having a white spider on it's chest. His limbs also turn into huge, sharp axes, just like the comics.

The other four symbiotes created in the lab were Lasher, Phase, Agony, and Scream - the last of which can also be seen in the trailer.

Venom

We reckon it's pretty safe to say the film is inspired from Venom: Lethal Protector, but this doesn't mean Carnage won't make a future appearance.

The blood thirsty symbiote is bonded to serial killer Cletus Kasady, and his back story is a lot cooler than simply being made in a lab.

Are you happy Riot will be the antagonist for the film? Or would you rather it be someone else? Let us know!
