The Nokia 'Banana' Phone From 'The Matrix' Is Being Re-released

And it's even got a revamped version of Snake

Remember last year when Nokia re-released the 3310 and we were all hit with some serious levels of nostalgia but not quite enough to part with our beloved iPhone/Android models?

Well, its latest re-release might just have you binning your smartphone, because they're only re-releasing the bloody 8110 - aka 'the banana phone from The Matrix'.

Back in 1999 (feel old?), Neo would, naturally, be using a mobile phone from the world's leading supplier - Nokia - and the film popularised the weird-looking phone, helping to drive sales. The phone, which was available in yellow, came with a slider and a unique curved shape.

Now, hoping to gain a whole new bunch of Neos, Nokia is re-releasing it for the bargain price of €79 (£69.50).

For that price you're not going to get a particularly techie phone, but that's kind of the beauty of this old school classic, right? That and you can slide the phone to end a call, which is pretty satisfying.

What you will get is a (cool looking) phone running on the Smart Feature OS, according to the Verge - which means it doesn't have access to the Android app, but HMD is creating an app store for this device that is reported to include Facebook and there's a chance other app creators will follow suit and make some, too.

It comes with a 2.4-inch QVGA display and 2-megapixel camera. But most importantly, there's a revamped version of Snake (worth the seventy-nine euro alone) and, as it's a classic Nokia, it has a standby battery life of 25 days. I'm not even joking, that's the actual spec.

Florian Seiche, CEO of HMD global told CNBC: "Nokia had these very iconic design legends and different people remember the 8110 for different reasons - but, certainly it's a lot about that emotional factor.

"But, actually it is also in Western markets, it's more as a lifestyle secondary phone and bringing it with 4G and Wi-Fi and some key apps people use everyday, it can now be a true secondary device.

"But in some of the emerging markets, it is still a primary device."

It's due for release in May.
