‘Apex Legends’ Season One Wild Frontier Launches With Battle Pass And Octane

EA has finally unveiled Season One of Apex Legends. Wild Frontier kicks off tomorrow, alongside the game's Battle Pass and first additional Legend: Octane.

Octane is the first new Legend introduced since the game's launch (although data miners found references to him not long after the game was released). Octavio 'Octane' Silva has two abilities, Adrenaline Junkie and Launch Pad. The former lets Octane trade health for speed, but an endless pool of Stims lets you regenerate health rapidly, and the latter lets you springboard your whole team through the air.

There are rewards up for grabs for all players, but if you buy into a Battle Pass, more than 100 unique items can be earned by playing and levelling up your account through the season.

Apex Legends' seasons are going to be similar to Fortnite's: massive content drops that launch regularly through the year. During the season you can earn tonnes of cosmetic drops, but if you don't manage to unlock the loot in the season then you'll miss your chance to nab said cosmetics.

The Battle Pass is on sale in the Apex Legends store, which you can access in-game. A single pass costs 950 Apex Coins, or, if you're not interested in the grind you can buy a Battle Pass Bundle that jumps you to level 25 and nets you the gear of those levels. But that will set you back 2,800 Apex Coins. (For reference, 1,000 Apex Coins can be bought via microtransaction for £7.99.)

During the season you will level up, whether you buy a pass or not, but you will only get the rewards for your level if you buy in. If you choose to buy a pass later in the season then you will unlock all the loot you earned in previous levels.

Apex Legends amassed tens of millions of players in its first month.

As EA explains it, "For example, if you're on level 20 for the season when you buy the Battle Pass, you'll unlock all rewards for every level up to 20, plus three special Battle Pass skins.

"If you buy the Battle Pass Bundle, you'll get the rewards for 25 levels in addition to the levels you've already reached. So, if you're on level 20 for the season when you buy the Battle Pass Bundle, you'll get all the rewards through level 45 and the three special Battle Pass skins."

Apex Legends has been a huge success for Respawn Entertainment and EA, and the Battle Pass was a natural next step for the battle royale hit. It's going to be fascinating to see how the game grows in coming seasons. What new Legends will be released? Will I be able to dress all my characters in hot pink gowns? Will I ever manage to win a damn game? Let us know what you want to see added in new seasons by commenting on Facebook and Twitter.
