'Crackdown 3' Given New Release Date, Again

'Crackdown 3' Given New Release Date, Again

The long-awaited Crackdown 3 has finally been given a definite release date, following multiple delays and cancelled plans over the past two years.

The game was originally set to launch in late 2016, and then alongside the Xbox One X in 2017, and then in spring 2018 - but those all fell through quicker than a Crackdown building you just blew up.

But now, according to a brand-new trailer, the upcoming shooter will be on shelves on 15 February, 2019, confirming Microsoft's recent nods to early spring.

Thanks to this early release, Crackdown 3 manages to avoid 22 February - when both Anthem and Metro: Exodus are launching - giving it time to make a few sales before two further anticipated triple-A titles enter the ring.

With that being said, don't expect Crackdown 3 to do that well in the UK sales charts; it's set to be available for free for Xbox One users subscribed to the Xbox Game Pass, thanks to Microsoft Studios publishing it (UK Charts only consider physical sales).

If you've never owned the Game Pass before, but are raring to give it a go, I can say with upmost certainty that Crackdown 3 will be worth signing up to a two-week trial for, among many other brand-new and classic Xbox titles its library offers.

And that's not all: the previously mentioned trailer (which you can watch above) didn't just reveal a launch date, but it also showed footage of Wrecking Zone, an upcoming Crackdown 3 online game mode. It'll be styled like a five-on-five deathmatch and set within a specially built arena, perfect for those who love jumping from building to building to catch their opponents off guard.

Wrecking Zone is a brand-new twist on the immersive, destructible world of Crackdown, something the series needed for its highly anticipated, overdue return - come February, it will have been nine years since Crackdown 2 released.Crazy.

If you've never played Crackdown before and aren't sure whether you'll like the new one, or the series in general, why not try the original for free? To get gamers excited for the upcoming instalment, Crackdown has been made free of charge for Xbox players right now. The promotion will end on 30 November.

What do you think about this news? Are you looking forward to it? Have you never played the series before? Do you have and use Game Pass? Let us know.

Crackdown 3 is set to launch on 15 February, 2019 for Xbox One and PC.
