Epic Games has announced that it is developing a mobile version of Fortnite: Battle Royale, the free-to-play mode of the multiplayer sandbox survival game that is taking the world by storm.
Starting next Monday (12 March), people with iOS phones will be able to sign up to receive invites into an early mobile version of the game, while Android users will get their chance to sign up in a few months' time.

"On phones and tablets, Fortnite is the same 100-player game you know from PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Mac," said the game's development team in a blog post. "Same gameplay, same map, same content, same weekly updates."

Both mobile versions of the game will even offer cross-play with the Mac, PC and Playstation 4 versions, allowing users to play together and to maintain their progress across platforms. iOS users will be able to take on people on Android once the latter version arrives.
Over the next few months Epic Games will be gradually letting small numbers of people play the game via invite events. If you register on the the game's official website, that'll get you on the email list. Once you've received your invite code, you'll then be able to share that with your friends.
Given the hype surrounding Fortnite right now, it's pretty amazing that developers have been able to get a fully featured version of the game for mobile devices, and Epic Games has insisted that there will be more to come in the future.

"We believe this is the future of games," the developers wrote on their blog. "The same game on all platforms. Console quality graphics and action. Play when you want, where you want."
Earlier this week a mum in the UK criticised the influence Fortnite: Battle Royale had had on her 10-year-old son, saying that her his obsession with the game had led to changes in his behaviour.
The mum of Leo went on British morning show This Morning to warn that she had to ban him from playing the game after he started ignoring family time.

"I had to tell him you're not acting the way you normally act," she revealed. "The game is so full of energy and adrenaline that when you pull them off - they are screaming at the television, they're hiding, they're calling each other, they are living in it with their friends.
"When they try and come out of it everything is boring, it can't compete."
Prepare to lose your life to Fortnite: Battle Royale once it makes its way to mobile then.
