Grand Theft Auto V Voted Best Online Game Ever

The Ranker.com poll puts the online crime caper ahead of World of Warcraft and Minecraft as the best online game ever.

Video games are brilliant. They allow us to escape from reality for a bit and live out our dreams - or at least things that we can't do in real life.

Whether you are living out the football career your dad always wanted you to have, or saving the world from some form of mystery zombifying illness, you can live out your innermost desires through pixelated characters.

Well, it turns out that somewhere deep down inside, all we want to do is run about an American city blowing the shit out of things, stealing cars, and letting off massive bazookas.

Of course, that's not true, but still, Grand Theft Auto V has been a ridiculous success.

Earlier this year it became the highest selling game ever in the USA, and it's already the third highest selling game of all time - behind Minecraft and Tetris.

Part of what has made it such a success has been the online mode. It gives the players the chance to roam around the open world of San Andreas with up to 30 other players and play co-operative or competitive games with one another.

This week Ranker.com voted GTA Online as the best online game of them all, beating online classics World of Warcraft and Minecraft into second and third in the process.

There is more to come, too. Since the game was first released back in 2013 the developers have been keeping it fresh by adding expansion packs with new missions, weapons, and vehicles (because we NEED limos with guns).

They also often release expansion packs that change the structure of the game, and this week the biggest one ever has been announced.

'The Doomsday Heist' is a new online update that spans three complicated acts and gives players the opportunity to save the world from a group of villains trying to cause the destruction of life on the planet.

Rockstar Games - the company behind GTAV - says: "A billionaire tech mogul, an idealistic intelligence agent, a socially awkward conspiracy theorist and a neurotic supercomputer have been forced into an unlikely alliance to save San Andreas from total annihilation.

"As apocalyptic threats mount from enemies unknown, you and your criminal crew are enlisted to un-tangle mysteries and eradicate threats spanning from the bustling streets of downtown Los Santos to the ocean floor and all the way to the inner depths of Mount Chiliad in an epic new online adventure."

The update also gives players jetpacks. Every good game needs jetpacks. Yes, even FIFA.
