'Metro: Exodus' Release Date Brought Forward To 15 February 2019

'Metro: Exodus' Release Date Brought Forward To 15 February 2019

First scheduled for 2018, then delayed until Quarter 1 2019, and eventually given a release of 22 February, publisher Deep Silver has provided a new launch date for Metro: Exodus - 15 February, 2019.

After nine successful years, Exodus will be the final instalment in 4A Games' first-person shooter trilogy, which began with 2010's Metro 2033 and was followed by 2013's Metro: Last Light. All three games are based on or inspired by Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky's Metro novels.

Deep Silver has revealed Exodus's opening cinematic, too, in a kind of victory cheer. It's made by the team team that put together the Game of Thrones and Westworld title sequences for HBO. One can only imagine the relief devs feel knowing their game has found solid ground, and that it'll avoid other likely-to-be-popular AAA launches.

In May, 4A and Deep Silver explained how "the development of Metro: Exodus is progressing well; we are all really excited by what we are seeing." But both parties decided that, to polish the series' first open world, Exodus had to be pushed back.

"We have been constantly reviewing the game's progress to ensure that we deliver a product that gamers and fans of the Metro series want and deserve," the firms said, "as well as keeping an eye on announcements from our competitor products."

If you're unsure which "competitor products" they refer to, it's most likely EA and BioWare's Anthem. The online-only third-person shooter launches 22 February, originally the same day that we were due to get Exodus, Crackdown 3 and Days Gone. But now everything except Anthem has had its release date moved to the week before, or several weeks after.

Metro: Exodus is set in the post-apocalyptic wasteland of the former Russian Federation. The shooter, mixed with horror and stealth elements, tasks players to cope with all-new hazards, and engage in combat against mutated creatures and hostile humans.

Its story takes place two years after the events of Metro: Last Light, 2036, where you reprise the role of 23-year-old Artyom, as he journeys to the far east with Spartan Rangers.

From an arsenal of customisable hand-made weaponry, to an all-new dynamic weather system, Exodus is lined up to be the perfect send off for the Metro trilogy, and its committed fans.
