In an announcement posted to their site Rockstar Games have revealed a host of changes and features coming to Red Dead Online on the 26th of February. It's a lot of stuff.
First off they're messing about with player blips:
"we're reducing the visibility of blips over long distances - your map position won't display to other players unless you are nearby (within 150 meters) and if you are slightly further away you will only appear when firing your weapon"
"We're also introducing a new system that highlights overly aggressive players. If your style of play becomes more hostile, your map position (and the position of your Posse members) will become more visible to other players with a progressively darkening dot that incrementally shifts from blue to dark red"

Both changes should lessen griefing and other anti-social behaviour in the game's open world space. That's not all either, players who rack up large bounties will be beset upon by bounty hunters who will attempt to kill them for their reward. They'll also be adding daily challenges which players can complete for gold nuggets and XP.
Rockstar emphasised that future improvements and changes will be in response to community feedback. To that end they intend to rebalance weapons like the Varmint rifle, reducing voice chat to closer proximity and making carcasses more persistent player's die or respawn.
More details will be coming next week ahead of the update.
