Rumour: Fable 4 Has You Save The World From A Meteor
With E3 kicking off this weekend and tipped to consume every waking hour of game fans' lives through next week, we're starting to have hot rumours drop left, right, and centre about what games we'll be seeing. The latest one is that a new Fable will be shown off at Microsoft's press conference on Sunday.
Apparently a trailer for the new game was seen by a Reddit user who has shared details of the new game. Now, before we get into those details there's a few things we need to say. We've reached out to Microsoft for confirmation and they've not yet replied. Also, the Reddit user, SufficientBridge7, has disappeared, with their account either deleted or shut down. Also, while the user allegedly saw this video, they didn't share any screenshots of the trailer.
Oh, and, of course, if you don't want spoilers, then you shouldn't read on.
SufficientBridge7 says in their post that in the new game it's clear that "Albion and Aurora are gone. 'Lands reduced to fables.' The Spire was rebuilt and used by a mad king to wish that an asteroid would strike the planet. He also wished it would happen again in the far future. Eons later and everything is new (medieval themed, new continents), and you have to stop the destruction of the planet again. Theresa and a Heroes Guild are preserved on another planet via demon door. Time travel heavily involved in plot. Jack of Blades returns."
It all sounds a little like The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.
They say, too, that the game can be played in first and third person, features a character creator, it's completely open, there won't be any guns, you can build towns around the world, it features multiplayer, and, interestingly, you can completely ignore the main quest and never become a hero.
Now, there have been rumours of a new Fable game for years, ever since its original developer Lionhead Studios was shut down by Microsoft back in 2016. Following the shutdown and the closure of Fable Legends, development of a new Fable RPG allegedly moved to Playground Games. While Playground is best known for its work on the Forza Horizon games, the studio has been expanding over the past few years, hiring developers for a roleplaying game project.
There have been some big name hires attached, too, like Sean Eyestone, who worked on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Battlefront 2, Will Kennedy, who worked on Grand Theft Auto V, and Juan Fernandez di Simon, who was a senior designer on Hellblade and became principal combat designer at Playground Games.
Maybe the game the team has been working on all these years will finally be revealed this weekend and there's a good chance it is a Fable reboot or sequel. Though, I'm not certain that the above leak is accurate on details, it may be, but there are definitely questions about its veracity considering the account that posted it has disappeared.
