‘Stellaris’ Is Free This Weekend, Can You Bend The Universe To Your Will By Sunday?

‘Stellaris’ Is Free This Weekend, Can You Bend The Universe To Your Will By Sunday?

If you've ever had dreams of becoming a galactic ruler, either to be benevolent and good or to crush your enemies under your heel, then I've got good news for you and your tyrannical ways: Stellaris is having a free weekend on Steam.

Stellaris is one of the most accessible grand strategy games on PC, easing you into universal conquest one solar system at a time. You'll begin with command of a small fleet and a single planet and through exploration and expansion, you'll soon have whole belts of planets under your control.

There are a number of win conditions, but being somewhat dictatorial, I've always gone for total galactic domination. Depending on the species you play as, you'll be more suited for a military takeover or a diplomatic dominance. I lean more into the warmongering but there is something particularly brutal about making friends with other empires, only to bring them under your control through treaties and alliances.

To celebrate its third anniversary, developer Paradox is holding a free weekend for Stellaris. All you need to do to play between now and the 12th is to boot up Steam and head to Stellaris' store page' store page. If you're having a good time taking over the galaxy, it's also on a 75% off sale, too.

"It feels like just yesterday we were launching Stellaris, unsure of how people would take to it, but now it has its own thriving community and is celebrating its third anniversary!" Stellaris' game director Daniel Moregård said in a press release announcing the free weekend. "It's an occasion we'd like to celebrate with the amazing community who filled the galaxy of Stellaris with their stories. We hope players new and old can enjoy this Free Weekend to the fullest!"
