New Tony Hawk Skateboarding Game 'Skate Jam' Out Next Week

We've all played a Tony Hawk game before, right? Whether it be an Underground or Pro Skater, or even THUG Pro, it's likely his skateboarding franchise was a part of any gamer's childhood. Or younger days, I suppose, if you're a tad older but love(d) shredding all the same.

If so, good news. After a three-year hiatus, Mr Hawk is set for his next gaming adventure. Skate Jam, a mobile game developed by Maple Media, is released on mobile next week.

It will be the second mobile skateboarding title developed under his famous name, but the first to actually launch. The original, Tony Hawk's Shred Session (2014), never saw the light of day.

According to its description on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, Skate Jam is free to play. Microstransactions will make an appearance, obviously. It is 2018, after all.

Both listings detail how Tony Hawk's Skate Jam will boast a fully-fledged career mode, global tournaments, three skating disciplines (street, park and vert), more than 15 parks, and a number of collectible Birdhouse skateboards.

"Tony Hawk's Skate Jam will set a new bar for authentic tricks, controls and music in a mobile skate game, thanks to Tony," its developers said.

Maple Media, by the way, is known for creating a number of skateboarding games within the Skate Party and Snowboard Party series, such as Skateboard Party 3 and Snowboard Party: World Tour. Tony's in good hands.

And although it's not the console game you're after, perhaps, decent on-the-go skateboarding games are very few and far between. To be honest, I can't wait for it to release on 13 December.

At the very least, it should tide us all over until the highly anticipated Skate 4 releases. No, there's been no official EA announcement, but remember when Skate 3 servers suddenly switched on in June? And when Daniel Lingen, a community engagement executive for EA, tweeted "#skate4"? Yeah, it's happening.
