You Can Now Pet The Dog (And Other Animals) In ‘Fortnite’

In what may be its most important update yet, you can now pet the dog in Fortnite.

Backpack pets were first added back in Season 6, letting you carry around a dragon, dog, chameleon, cat, and properly chunky hamster but until now they were very much in the 'you can look but don't touch' category of pet. I don't want to speak ill of a developer, but that was a vicious tease, Epic Games.

Thankfully, after being called out by the Can You Pet The Dog? Twitter account, which is on a mission to catalogue all the games in which you can and can't pet dogs, Epic Games added in the necessary functionality.

It was a minor note in yesterday's otherwise chunky Fortnite patch. Just one line "You can now pet the dog... and other Pets!"

But Fortnite's entry in Can You Pet The Dog? has already been updated:

I mean, it's not the most involved petting animation - the hand sort of swipes the air nearby - but the intention is good and clean.

Maybe this is just the first step towards significantly heavier petting. Wait, that sounds bad.

Are there any dogs in games you'd like to pet but can't because developers won't let you? Let us know on Facebook and Twitter.
