Google Maps has added the annoyingly addictive Snake - so good luck getting any work done today.

The temporary addition, to mark April Fool's Day, allows users to choose from a number of cities, including London, Cairo, San Francisco and Tokyo.

Instead of a snake, you'll be in control of a train or bus, depending which city you choose, and the aim is to pick up as many passengers as possible without running into the edge of the screen or into yourself. You can also pick up famous landmarks, such as the London Eye, to earn extra points.

You can select Play Snake from the drop down list.

According to Google, Snake is being rolled out to iOS and Android phones and will stick around for about a week, so make sure you've got the most up to date version of Maps. You can also play it here.

To play, open up the Google Maps app, click the menu icon in the top left corner and hit Play Snake - then say goodbye to your productivity for the day.

On social media, people are pretty chuffed about getting the chance to play the Nokia-classic, with one person writing: "Google never disappoints... I'm on multiple deadlines but love that you can play Snake on Google Maps!"

Another added: "WAIT? You can play Snake on Google Maps now?"

On a blog post announcing the new addition, Google said: "Play Snake to get your daily dose of 90s nostalgia (boy bands, fanny packs and slap bracelets not included)."

You can play in a number of different cities.

This isn't the first time Google Maps has treated us all to a gaming classic, last year, in honour of Mario Day on 10 March (or to put it another way: MAR10), it added Mario in his little Kart to help you find your way.

So instead of a little blue ball, for one whole week, people could choose to be guided by Mario. Amazing.

Going back two years, the tech-giant introduced Ms Pac-Man to the app, much to the delight of retro game fans. So this seems to be a bit of an annual tradition, we need Sonic next guys.
