If this isn't enough to have you regretting that cheap trip to the market, then I don't know what is. iPhone users are being warned that fake chargers could explode and burn down owners' houses.

Ninety-nine percent of cheap, blag equipment failed basic safety tests carried out by investigators from Trading Standards.

Of the 400 fake chargers tested, only three of them protected against electric shocks, the Sun reports, leading Trading Standards to brand them an 'unknown entity'.

Leon Livermore, the chief executive of Chartered Trading Standards Institute, said: "It might cost a few pounds more, but counterfeit and second-hand goods are an unknown entity that could cost you your home or even your life, or the life of a loved-one."

I know it's a ball-ache, especially because of the cost and the fact they seem to break after minutes, but imagine burning your house down for the sake of a few quid.

A couple of months back, Apple announced it was suing a mobile phone accessory company for selling 'dangerous' fake chargers that have been known to blow up.
