We all had a good laugh the other day when Samsung released their latest ad trolling Apple - and all the eager types who wait outside Apple stores when they release a new, well, anything. (We're looking at you, Marco Pierre White Jr...)
The ad followed the trials and tribulations of a devoted Apple customer who always gets the latest iPhone but who was also always annoyed and frustrated that his girlfriend's Samsung always seemed to have newer and better features. He ends up, of course, buying a Samsung instead of an iPhone X.
Now, Motorola have now chimed in, upping the ante with a new ad for their new phone that takes the piss out of both Apple and Samsung customers. Wait, Motorola are still making phones?
Anyway, the new ad continues the story. It features an actor, which is presumably meant to the be the same fella out of the Samsung ad, who comes home, proudly showing his girlfriend videos of them together, all happily in love, on what we assume is his new Samsung phone.
She, however, is not impressed. Because she too got a new phone and - shock! horror! - it isn't a Samsung, but a Motorola Z2 Play with a clever snap-on mod that allows her to project videos of the two of them onto to the wall. Much to his disappointment, obviously.
And then comes the sell across the screen: "Up-upgrade to Motorola". Which suggests that Motorola think Samsung phones are better than iPhones, but that their own piece of kit is better than both.
Motorola posted the video to its YouTube channel and also its Facebook, along with a message aimed directly at Samsung: "We loved your ad, but we think you forgot the ending."
I love all this, when companies just decide to troll each other. It's great, isn't it?
But while it's very clever and very funny, will it be enough to dissuade legions of loyal iPhone and Samsung customers from their smartphones of choice? Time will tell, but those Apple devotees tend to be very loyal...
