Heroic Zookeepers Rescue Baby Zebra From Drowning In Water Hole
Get ready to have your faith in humanity restored, because a video has emerged showing a pair of quick-thinking zookeepers saving a baby zebra from drowning just seconds after it was born.
The dramatic moment unfurled at the the Valencia Bioparc in the eastern Spanish region.
According to local reports, the mum who is named La Nina (The Girl) was in a monitored labour situation when her baby came out. However, things took a turn after the umbilical cord was cut and the male foul fell and got stuck in the watering hole.
As you'll see in the video, the mother looks distressed - as if labour weren't hard enough. The two dudes plunge into the water and wade through, carefully grab the baby and carry it to safety.
As the mother closes in on them, one of the zookeepers splashes her with water as a signal to stay away, just to save them enough time to carry out their job.
Rightly so, La Nina is distressed and so the men are quick to leave the baby and run so the mother can tend to it.
That was one heck of a close shave, but they pulled it off and reportedly after a quiet night, the newborn male and mother are both doing well.
It's adorable, it's heartwarming, it's so many things - La Nina and her little boy were off to a rocky start, but thanks to those two heroes they're going to enjoy a healthy life together. Hopefully one that doesn't involve spray painting.
