Watch As Rescued Fox And Little Girl Become ‘Like Siblings’

'It was true love at first sight'

A little girl and a fox have become the best of friends after her family rescued her. They've grown up together over the last six years and it's so wholesome to see.

Phoenix and her family own a sanctuary for rescued farm animals in Australia and in 2015, they took in a fox cub after she was found abandoned. As foxes are considered vermin in Australia, Rachael (Phoenix's mum) worried the fox (who they named Fergie) wouldn't survive on her own.

"I wasn't going to let her die and I knew that we could give her a great home," said Rachael.

"It was true love at first sight," said Rachael. "I had no idea how strong the bond between my little girl, Phoenix, and Fergie would become."

Rachael explained that while Fergie can be a bit nervous around adults, she's "100 per cent trusting of Phoenix," and that they're "like siblings."

"Phoenix has always had this special bond with animals ever since she was little," continued Rachael. "But Fergie is like nothing else." You can watch Phoenix and Fergie's special bond in the video below (and yes, it's okay to cry).

In the video shared by The Dodo, little Phoenix can be seen playing with all sorts of animals, from roosters to goats, to giving a big pig a mud bath.

"Fergie is always so happy to see her. She makes these little happy chirping sounds to welcome her - and she only does it to Phoenix."

Phoenix will feed Fergie every morning and spend some time playing with her, rubbing her belly and fussing her, like you would a dog.

"Foxes are just like dogs and cats, they need stimulation," added Rachael. "And they really shouldn't be pets, but because Fergie couldn't be released, we've been really lucky to have this experience," she said.

The Greener Pastures Sanctuary is located in Waroona, Western Australia and currently has around 180 rescued farm animals (plus one fox) in its care.

Phoenix said she dreams of running the sanctuary herself one day.
