Dog Chained To A Tree For Over Four Years Finally Gets A Happy Home

After animal control did nothing, Laura took it upon herself to fight for Takia (warning: you're going to need your tissues).

A dog which was chained to a tree for more than four years is now thriving in her new home. Her current owner visited her at the tree almost every day to check on her after animal control did nothing to help.

Takia is a nine-year-old American Akita, which is a large dog breed. She was rescued by her owner, Laura Seymour, in 2017 after spending four and a half years of her life chained to a tree in the backyard of her former owners' home.

"I was just driving to school one morning and I noticed this little black and white figure chained to this tree," said Laura. "She was really muddy. The chain she was on was really short and it just broke my heart to see her like that."

Worried that the dog wasn't getting fed, as the bowl next to her was filling with rainwater, Laura phoned animal control. But animal control didn't do anything about it.

She found out shortly after calling animal control that the owners didn't have the means to look after Takia properly, but weren't willing to give her up.

"Nothing was really done from that point, so I would stop by around three or four times a week for about a year." Laura brought along dog toys and food for Takia.

"She was super excited and happy to see me. I was like, 'wow, how sweet of a dog is she?"

Soon after, Laura left for the summer and couldn't visit Takia for six weeks. She came back horrified to see that Takia had developed a nasty ear infection which had started eating away at her flesh.

"She had a really bad infection in her ears and she looked really rough, so that was the second time I ended up calling animal control," said Laura.

Thankfully, animal control were forced to step in this time and they told the owner to surrender Takia. Laura adopted her straight away.

During the video, you can see Takia enjoying her walks and being free to live her best life.

"It's been really exciting watching her explore different things that she's never been able to do. So I take her on hikes and walks.

"Watching her in the snow for the first time was probably the most exciting thing I've ever seen," said Laura.

Takia now has quite the following on Instagram, where she keeps her followers updated about her life with Laura.

It's clear Laura and Takia are inseparable and it warms our hearts to see Takia in her happy forever home. "I am one lucky dog owner, I can tell you that for sure," said Laura in a recent Instagram post of her and Takia out in the park.
