While various retailers compete to have the best Christmas advert on TV this year, M&S has got the edge when it comes to social media thanks to some of its staff members (who are missing a vocation in showbiz).

The M&S Romford boys, as they've been dubbed, have gone viral on TikTok recently, so here's a bit more about them.

Who are the M&S Romford Boys and why are they famous?

The M&S Romford boys are a group of lads who work at - you guessed it - M&S Romford, which is a town in East London.

The M&S Romford branch has a TikTok page, which has thousands of followers thanks to its dazzling and talented staff, whose recreations of classic pop music videos, fun product explainers, and dances have gone viral on the platform.

The TIkTok account, which has more than 20,000 followers at the time of publication, first gained traction when the boys' recreation of Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' went viral at Halloween.

It's not just pop songs either. The so-called M&S Romford boys have also created their own version of the M&S Christmas ad donning the Percy Pig merchandise in the collection this year. Some followers have even gone as far to say that if their version of the ad was the official one, it would make them want to go and shop at M&S.

Although the boys are in most of the videos, all of the team at the store get involved and customers have said they love seeing the staff being at the forefront and having fun with the social media platform.

Lee Spencer, the store manager at the Marks & Spencer in Liberty Shopping Centre, Romford, told the Romford Recorder the team has been "blown away" by the reactions and described the videos as a "fun new way" to speak to customers.

He said: "We've got more than 445,000 likes and over 12,000 followers so we're reaching more people than we ever could have imagined."

"Our social media champion Sarah Hutcherson has been doing an amazing job getting colleagues from across the store involved in the fun," he said.

"And we've even had customers telling us how much they enjoy the videos and how great it is to see our hardworking team enjoying themselves and showing off their moves."

"I will go all the way to M&S Romford for my weekly shop just to see these guys. @marksandspencer give them a pay rise," one Twitter user said.

"If this was the TV advert I'd go to M&S," said another.

"M&S Romford are my Xmas no 1," tweeted another.
