It's a full-time job keeping up with all of the latest TikTok trends, with a new one seeming to pop up every day. While most are fun and harmless, some, like this one, really shouldn't be out there.

TikTok users are now trying to 'cancel' the so-called 'burgundy sauce backwards' challenge due to it being offensive.

Don't know what it is? Read on.

What is the TikTok 'burgundy sauce backwards' challenge?

This new challenge dares users to record themselves saying "burgundy sauce" and then use the tools in Snapchat to play it backwards.

The challenge has seen nearly 27 million views on the platform, with most now using the hashtag #burgundysauce to warn people not to do it.

What Does 'Burgundy Sauce' Backwards Say?

When the phrase "burgundy sauce" is recorded and played back in reverse, an offensive racial slur - "saucy n****r* can be heard.

Lots of TikTok users are now creating a Stitch with @tyrone1mc, who says "whatever you do, do not say 'burgundy sauce' and reverse it."

In the stitches, TikTok users say they're curious about the challenge and they're going to try it, but left shocked, they refuse to actually publish the recording backwards. You can see an example of this from TikTok user @andrewiannazzo below.

After recording himself saying "burgundy sauce" he cuts to another clip of him looking shocked and disturbed by how it sounds once it's reversed. He said "f**k that, it's not going up" and he doesn't share the backwards recording.

The sentiment is shared by many other TikTok users, who show that they're curious about what "burgundy sauce" backwards says, but don't actually publish the reversed version of their recordings, due to it being offensive.

Of course, how it sounds in reverse is down to the user's accent and pronunciation of the phrase. Some TikTok users have reported that they've tried it and they don't hear the offensive racial slur.

This TikTok user published a video of a robot voice reading out the phrase backwards and it didn't sound offensive at all.

The recording played backwards in that video sounds like "equas id-ni-grab," which of course doesn't mean anything and just sounds like a cartoon alien speaking.

So there you have it. If you're curious to hear what you sound like saying "burgundy sauce" backwards, by all means do it, but the advice is to keep it to yourself and definitely don't post the backwards recording on any social media.
