A former wannabe police dog was sacked form the force for being 'too soft', but things are looking up because he's just taken on a new (and much more playful) role that's better suited to him.

Ozzie, was part of a litter that was born and trained by Queensland Police Service back in 2018. As his training progressed, it soon became clear the 18-month-old pooch just wasn't aggressive enough for the force.

The German Shepherd wasn't keen on chasing criminals but loves chasing birds. Which is lucky for him, really, especially seeing as his new job is to do just that - at Brisbane Airport, Australia.

Ozzie now lives and works with his handler Jackson Ring, who told Daily Mail Australia: "Ozzie didn't portray all the necessary traits of a police canine - but he is perfect for what we want, which is introducing a predator into the environment."

Ozzie's new role is to scare bird away from highly frequented areas of the airport in a bid to reduce the chance of them getting stuck inside the planes' engines.

The airport were previously using cars with sirens attached to them, but the birds became acclimatised to such sounds. Meaning that they were forced to call for some furry backup.

The MailOnline reported that now birds are too scared to come near the planes which, in turn, makes take off and landing a lot more safer - for the people on board and the birds.

Jackson went on: "His priorities in life are ball, then breathing and then everything else below that. He's perfect for us though because of his love of balls. He goes out and he's so happy to run around.

"He has got so much energy. He will do whatever we want as long as he can come back and play with his ball."

Ozzie's job comes with a lot of exercise, but on quiet days they will take him off site to parks where he can chase birds and practice drills.

Jackson added: "I love him and the team loves him. He is the biggest morale boost in the world. His duties out on the airfield and his training is one thing but another benefit of having a dog is he is amazing companion.

"We have formed an incredible bond. Everyone loves him. He's such a great bundle of energy and positivity running around."
