There are tons of benefits to owning a dog: you apparently get sick less, you're more resistant to allergies, you get more exercise and your pet might even be able to detect cancer. Yeah - dogs are awesome.

But owning a number of dogs can become a handful. If you're finding yourself overwhelmed with the number of animals in your house, then you might put them up for adoption - unlike what this woman was trying to do.

Parked in a dead end in San Antonio, Texas, a woman was trying to dump her dogs and nearly got away with it until she was confronted by a passer-by.

The person filming the incident said: "I was getting ready for work when I spotted a car at a dead end road removing collars from within the car. I put my shoes on quickly and ran out to the road and started recording the act.

"I am tired of people doing this continuously in the area."

She explained that you can just drop off the dogs at Animal Care services for free when the fine for dumping an animal is $500 (£355) per dog.

The woman with the dogs offered a glimmer of hope as she asked where that facility was, but then just worked quicker to get the animals out of her sight. She got in the car, slammed the door and the car backed out of the dead end. In the footage, you can see the dogs were so confused about what was happening.

Then a person in the car had the audacity to flip the bird to the woman filming the incident - interesting assessment of who's in the wrong here.

People on YouTube were furious, saying that the people who owned these animals are 'monsters', 'cruel' and 'idiots'.

Thankfully this story has a happy ending.

The woman filming the incident called Animal Care Services and officers rushed to the scene to secure the dogs.

A spokesperson wrote on Facebook: "These dogs have clearly had a very rough day. They appear to be friendly, seem to get along with each other, and most importantly, are in need of love and proper care."

The woman who was filmed dumping the dogs turned herself in and an investigation has started.

Luckily these dogs were able to be rescued quickly but it's hard to see people being so callous towards an animal's life - especially when there are services available to make these things easier for everyone concerned.
