‘Golden Unicorn’ Puppy Has One Ear In The Middle Of Her Head

A puppy coined the 'Golden Unicorn' has been winning hearts on social media.

The pup is a golden retriever, hence 'golden', and has one ear in the middle of her head, hence 'unicorn'.

STAAHHHHPPP

A post shared by Rae the Golden Retriever (@goldenunicornrae) on

A video of her was shared on
TikTok and it has been liked almost 500,000 times.

As if this pup wasn't already brilliant enough, she's also named Rae, as in 'ear' backwards.

At this point, you're probably wondering how and why Rae has such a unique appearance. Well, according to her Instagram bio an accidental injury at birth left her with only her right ear, and as she grew, 'it migrated to the top of her head'.

How exactly an ear migrates to the top of a head is unclear. Indeed, the explanation offered up by the veterinary technician who uploaded videos of Rae to TikTok seems to make more sense.

According to The Mirror, the vet said: "She was bit by her mum at a couple days old. Lost her ear and had to have her skin sutured. It pulled her one ear to the top of her head."

Abandoned 'Unicorn' Puppy Found With Tail Growing From His Head

While Rae is clearly a very special doggo, she isn't the only unicorn pup to grace this Earth.

Last November an abandoned puppy was found with a tail growing from his forehead.

He was taken in by rescue charity Mac's Mission - who named him 'Narwhal the Little Magical Furry Unicorn' - and thankfully he found a forever home; this home was none other than that of the shelter's founder, Rochelle Steffen.

Rochelle told the Southeast Missourian: "I had no intention initially of keeping him. I didn't want a puppy. I thought I would end up with another really sad bully case, because they're the most misunderstood. But Narwhal is absolutely, exactly what we needed."

"It's not just a decision from me. The whole rescue cannot fathom him leaving. We all fell in love with him."

The shelter added on Facebook that Narwahl was perfectly healthy - though sadly his face tail doesn't wag.

The post read: "The extra tail is not connected to anything and has no real use other than making him the COOLEST PUPPY EVER! Dr. Heuring said there is no real reason at this time for the unicorn tail to be removed (and we all wish it wagged)!!"
