A photographer has shared a video of the moment he captured footage of two widowed penguins providing comfort to each other as they look out to the Melbourne skyline.

The heartwarming moment was filmed by Tobias Baumgaertner and after a picture of the animals went viral, it was time to share with the world what it didn't think it needed (but definitely did).

The pair of penguins were photographs in the Melbourne suburb of St Kilda back in 2019, but it wasn't until it was shared on Twitter that the incredible snap did the rounds.

Now Tobias has shared the 30 second clip on Instagram to commemorate World Penguin Day. He wrote: "Here is a short video of the two penguins which have recently touched so many hearts around the world.

"While standing on the rock and facing the Melbourne skyline, they are surrounded by the calls of hundreds of other little fairy penguins. May these two bring even more love into your lives!"

Touching on his original post, he went on to write: "I previously shared these penguin images to spread love because that, I believed, is what the world needed most right now.

"It was never intended to be scientifically accurate as it was quite obviously romanticized by adding my personal feelings of being separated from and longing for the one I can't live without. I wrote these words from the bottom of my heart and never expected so many people to connect with them."

On Instagram, one person wrote: "Thanks so much for sharing of stunning photos and great footage. They give us lots of strength and support during this harsh time."

Another added: "I love the beautiful and heartbreaking still photos you shared previously and now this amazing video clip. There are no words I can write to describe to you how these two pieces of work touches my heart and soul."

You can head over to Tobias' Instagram page to not only see the amazing photo of the two penguins, but also many other stunning wildlife and nature snaps - which are available as prints if you contact him via his website: tobiasvisuals.com.
