Rare Genetic Condition Leaves Cat With Dazzling Two-Tone Eyes

The owner bought Olive as a kitten and had no idea her eyes would turn out to be so unique

A cat has amassed quite the fanbase on social media due to a rare genetic condition which means she has striking two-tone eyes.

Olive, an Oriental cross breed, has sectoral heterochromia iridis, which typically affects white cats because of its connection to low melanin levels; the result is an eye-catching half brown, half blue contrast.

Owner Kim, from Derby, UK, said she had no idea how unusual Olive's eyes would turn out when she bought her as a kitten.

The 50-year-old said: "I got the kittens on a pet-for-sale website. I was looking for another kitty to join the family to make it four. I wanted a lively kitten to fit in with my others.

"I didn't choose her for her eyes. It was quite dark and when I picked her up and the lady lifted her into the light and said she may have odd looking eyes.

"I didn't know how her eyes would turn out."

In December, one of the most popular cats on Instagram passed away.

Lil Bub's distinctive appearance earned her viral fame, amassing 2.4 million followers on the site.

Announcing the sad news in a post on the social media platform, Lil Bub's owner said: "On the morning of Sunday, December 1st 2019 we lost the purest, kindest and most magical living force on our planet.

"BUB was cheerful and full of love laying in our bed with us Saturday night, but unexpectedly passed away peacefully in her sleep... I have always been fully transparent about BUB's health, and it was no secret that she was battling a persistent and aggressive bone infection. Even knowing this, we weren't expecting her to pass so soon or so abruptly without warning.

"I truly believe that she willingly made the decision to leave her failing body so that our family would not have to make that difficult decision ourselves."
