During lockdown many of us have been experimenting with our hair, with mixed results. However, one woman took it a step further and decided to try and DIY-dye-job on her pet pooch, much to the surprise of her mum.

Poor Ted was left with bright green fur after his owner Caitlin O'Connor, from Derry in Northern Ireland, gave him a makeover to celebrate his first birthday.

Caitlin said she got the idea after seeing people using special dye to colour their pets online, and she knew that if she did it, she'd get a hilarious reaction from her mum.

While mum Caroline was cooking in the kitchen, Caitlin brought Ted up to the bathroom and covered him in semi-permanent green pet dye.

When the time come for Caitlin to show off her handiwork, poor Caroline was left completely speechless.

Twenty-year-old Caitlin said: "I've seen people dye their dog's green before and I thought it would be a good idea to dye him green.

"My mother idolises my dog and treats Ted like a human, I knew she would react crazy if I did it behind her back.

"I did it in the bathroom upstairs while she was doing dinner because I knew she wouldn't come upstairs.

"It's a semi-permanent dye safe for dogs so it lasts for 10 washes.

"You could tell that Ted knew something was going on, when he walked into the kitchen he turned around and looked at my mum like he knew something had happened."

Caroline said she was left 'in shock' after seeing Ted but admitted to finding it pretty funny.

"I was in shock," Caroline said. "I did not have a clue that it was happening. She planned the whole thing.

"My reaction is speechless. I couldn't speak, I was shocked. I couldn't believe that she did it.

"I find it hilarious, it's safe dye and it was fine.

"I always said my children could be creative and express themselves freely but I think they took it a bit too far."

A clip showing Caroline's reaction was shared online by Caitlin and has quickly gone viral, it's been viewed more than 400,000 times since she posted it earlier this week.
