Peter Kay has raised almost £150,000 to help fund treatment for a woman battling cancer.

Polly Haydock was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in October 2015 and was told in July that she had just six months to live. However, she's refused to give up and began fundraising to help pay for revolutionary treatment in Germany.

A friend of Polly contact Peter to ask if he would consider attending a fundraising event at a pub, but he rang her and said, 'I've got a better; I'll put these two nights on'." What an absolute legend.

He appeared for two nights in Blackpool Opera House earlier this month.

Writing on her appeal page Polly thanked the Pheonix Nights star: "Absolutely overwhelming amount raised at The Blackpool Opera House by The Legend that is Peter Kay!"

Polly had already begun treatment abroad, so was unable to attend the night, but her husband, Dan, told the Mirror: "Peter is a very warm person and he came across like that.

"We got to meet him at the interval and he did a little video message for Polly which we sent off to her.

"He just said 'I am really glad that I can do this for you. It is nothing for me to put two nights on but it makes a big difference to the cause for Polly'. He gave us a massive hug and said 'I hope everything is going to be ok'."

He added that the doctors in Germany are very confident that the treatment will be a success.
