Amazing work, LADs!

Six prisoners who heroically saved the life of a prison guard after he had a heart attack have had their sentences reduced by a quarter.

The men, who are incarcerated in Polk county, Georgia, were working outside when their guard collapsed. The weather was extremely humid, with temperatures reaching 24C.

The guard had been supervising the men while they worked outside seven hours a day, five days a week.

As soon as the guard hit the ground, the men rushed to help. One grabbed the guard's phone and dialled 911, while the others took off his gun belt and his bullet proof vest to help him cool off. At the time, they didn't realise he was suffering from a heart attack.

Speaking to local news station, WKYC, one of the men, Greg Williams, said: "When he started breathing again, it was just real heavy and real fast.

"When that happened, in my opinion, it wasn't about who is in jail and who wasn't.

"It was about a man going down and we had to help him."

The guard, who chose not to be named, told the station: "We spend a lot of time together. I started coughing spells, and every time I got those, I'd get hotter.

"It was just harder to keep up. I just finally went down after a couple of minutes doing that. So at that point, I was just trying to breathe. I really wasn't thinking much, but just trying to get everything under control."

He commended the prisoners, adding: "None of my guys ran. None of them did anything they shouldn't have done."

As a result, not only did all of the men get their sentences reduced, but they were also treated to an outdoors lunch of pizza, Coca-Cola and desserts that were lovingly made by the officer's family members. How nice is that?

Johnny Moats, sheriff of Polk county, also spoke highly of the men, adding: "They really stepped up in a time of crisis and showed that they care about my officers.

"That really speaks a lot about how my officers they treat these inmates. They treat them like people. Like family."

One of the inmates summed it up beautifully. He said: "Anything could have been done. Anything could have happened. But all the right things happened."

It just goes to show that doing the right things pays off. Great work, LADs.
