The poorly little girl, who was surprised in hospital by Drake on her birthday, has now received her much-needed heart transplant.

Sofia Sanchez posted a video earlier this month asking the Canadian star to help her celebrate her birthday.

Drake was later filmed at her bedside in the Chicago hospital.

The 11-year-old fan, who has cardiomyopathy, an incurable condition which can cause heart failure, hit headlines last week after a YouTube video of her meeting her idol was shared online.

Yesterday, it was revealed the little girl would get her heart transplant and then an update on her GoFundMe page shared the good news that her transplant operation had been successful.

The statement said: "Sofia is out of surgery! Surgery went well.

"She received a really good, strong heart. They will keep her asleep for the remainder of the night. Thank you for your prayers."

In the video clip, Drake had slipped into the little girl's ward at the children's hospital, where, according to the singer, they talked about some of their favourite topics: Justin Beiber, owls and basketball. All solid topics of conversation, if you ask me.

In the heart-warming clip, Sofia gets the shock of her young life when she spots Drake walking up to her.

Drake then casually says to the girl: "You asked me to come, I'm here. You wanna give me a hug or what?"

Of course, you don't need to ask Sofia twice as she immediately jumps to hug her idol. Definitely an 'I'm not crying, you are' moment.

Sofia was spotted by Drake when she recorded her own version of the Kiki Challenge using her wheelchair instead of a car.

While the Nice for What singer was on tour in Chicago he decided the least he could do was pay his poorly fan a visit at the children's hospital.

Speaking after the meeting, Sofia's cardiologist, Dr Bradley Marino, said: "Having this one special day where she doesn't have to be a sick patient and doesn't have to be a girl waiting for a heart, it's just a little girl who's a fan of a great artist, it's pretty special."

Though meeting Drake made her day, Sofia has now received the ultimate birthday present - the gift of life.

Sofia will now spend around six to eight weeks recovering from the serious procedure with her family.

The Chicago Sun Times reported she will hopefully be home in time for Thanksgiving.

On a GoFundMe page set up for Sofia, the family shared the good news, while also asking for prayers for the donor's family who 'unselfishly donated a heart for Sofia'.
