Two Brooklyn Nine-Nine fans decided to recreate one of the show's most iconic scenes - yep, you probably know the one - a feat they say was totally 'worth it', despite taking nearly three hours to complete.

The scene, which was the cold opening of episode 17 of season five, sees Detective Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) ask a line-up of five suspects to sing 'I Want It That Way' by The Backstreet Boys, after a witness said she heard the person who murdered her brother singing the tune.

Peralta inevitably forgets the purpose behind the unorthodox questioning technique and the whole thing descends into a hilarious group sing-along, which has now become a favourite moment among fans - not least Tara Dolan and her boyfriend Nathan Richardson, who loved it so much they decided they should recreate it.

The two teenagers, both aged 19, paid homage to the now-famous sequence, using the powers of technology and, er, some slightly dodgy painted-on facial hair, to morph into multiple characters for a TikTok video.

The two gap year students from Burton-on-Trent told LADbible they are both 'big fans of the show', with Tara saying: "I've loved and watched it since I was 15.

"Many of our friends love it too, so we thought it would be funny to try and remake the scene on TikTok."

Tara explained it wasn't hard to find bits and pieces they already owned to recreate the looks of each character.

The tough bit, however, was that it took them close to three hours to complete the complicated sequence.

She said: "It took us so long to make. Probably close to three hours to be honest but it was worth it.

"We watched the original clip from the show and tried to recreate each outfit, and it was complete luck that we nearly had the exact same clothes as the characters - especially the shirt on my boyfriend which was nearly an exact match.

"He also looks a little bit like Jake the main character in the show which made it so much funnier."

As for that tricky facial hair, which obviously wasn't something that Tara in particular possessed naturally, the duo decided to get creative.

She explained: "I just used a black eyeliner pencil, it was quite hard to get off as it smudged a lot which was annoying because every time the camera changes we had to actually change clothes into that outfit so sometimes we had to redraw the facial hair multiple times."

Thankfully it was all worth it, with friends online commending their efforts.

Tara added: "So far we've got a lot of positive feedback online, everyone noticed our outfits particularly, and just told us how much they loved the video."

Well, now they'll have plenty more potential content to work on, as Brooklyn Nine-Nine returns today with season seven.
