Friends Leave Party Speechless With Their Friday Night Dinner Fancy Dress

Friends Leave Party Speechless With Their Friday Night Dinner Fancy Dress

"We entered looking so hideous that there was an audible break in the conversation where people’s jaws literally dropped at the sight."

A group of four friends decided to morph into the Friday Night Dinner gang for a fancy dress party and managed to get it spot on - in turn successfully confusing a room full of 'sexy Bond girls and Elle Woods', who were left 'speechless' at the sight.

Anna, 18, Katie, 17, Isabel, 18, and Millie, 18 - all students from Oxford - decided to channel their love for Channel 4 comedy Friday Night Dinner into the inspiration for their outfits for their friend's 18th birthday party, transforming themselves into Jim, Jackie, Martin and Wilson, respectively.

Anna told LADbible: "We have loved the show for many years and we wanted to express our love for the characters by attempting to recreate their iconic looks."

The only thing is, it wasn't quite the vibe everyone else had gone for.

Anna explained: "The theme of the 18th party was TV and movie characters, and little did we know at the party everyone had gone full glam.

"There were some sexy Bond girls, and Elle Woods [Legally Blonde] looking cute, ready to take pictures.

"Picture the scene; we entered looking absolutely hideous, so hideous in fact there was an audible break in the conversation where people's jaws quite literally dropped at the sight.

"I mean Jackie alone would have been enough to kill the mood, but matched by Martin, Jim and the sight of Wilson was something else to behold, I genuinely wonder how we got the vibe so wrong."

In fact, Anna's turn as Jim proved so convincing that one of her friends didn't even recognise her, while someone thought Isabel's Marin was Margaret Thatcher.

"We looked as out of place as dead fox in a freezer," she continued.

"We definitely were not going to be getting any 'nippy nippy' that night, let alone be regarded as potential 'females'.

"We even missed the judging of the best costumes (which undeservingly went to a pair of minions!).

"After a night of successfully dodging photos and sharing our schmoigle we departed from the party with bigger regrets than Johnny's tattoo and feeling like we had lived fast and wanted to die young after the embarrassment of the evening."

Thankfully, their efforts weren't all in vain, as their costumes managed to muster a much better reception outside of the context of the party, where the reference proved a little niche.

"On the way to the party we stopped off at a petrol station and went in in costume to see if we would get recognised and the people working at the till couldn't stop laughing at us," Anna said.

The experience doesn't seem to have dampened their love for the show, either, with Anna saying: "We all love the show and use the quotes on a daily basis.

"When we come into school in the morning we greet each other with 'hello bambinos'."

Adding that they are 'praying' there's another season coming out, she added: "It would be amazing to meet the actors in real life."

While sadly we can't arrange for them to meet, at least we can confirm season six is officially on the way, with filming having recently wrapped.

Fiona McDermott, head of comedy at Channel 4, told LADbible: "We're delighted that audiences love Friday Night Dinner as much as we do at Channel 4, and are thrilled that it will be returning.

"It's always brilliant when audiences for a show grow over time and we're thrilled that more and more people are falling in love with the Goodmans. We are so pleased to be making a new series with Robert and Big Talk."

Season six is set to air on Channel 4 this spring.
